Product Description

Built for life skills learners at any age, this set of task cards is a practical and engaging way to support students in counting coins. Whether they’re just starting to recognize coin values or working toward more advanced skills, these counting coins activities offer built-in support and easy-to-follow steps to help them succeed.

Students begin by identifying the value of individual coins, then move on to counting coins of the same type, and eventually tackle mixed coin combinations. With up to four coins per card, this set provides a clear, gradual progression for students developing real-world money skills.

This set includes 36 coin counting task cards have cards with 1 coin per card (i.e., penny, nickel, dime, quarter) to 4 coins combined up to $1 prices. Students choose the price that matches the amount of the coins on the card.

In addition, there are 30 cards with grocery items and price tags for students to match to the value of the coins task cards. This helps students practice and generalize their coin counting money skills to real-life situations and create a better understanding of how money is used.

Who are These Counting Coins Task Cards For?

  • These cards are designed for students who are just starting out identifying common coins and their monetary value.
  • Students should be able to count coins but can practice working on coin value with these cards. The first 4 cards of the set are just single coins before the set moves into 2 coins per card, making them great for beginners.
  • They provide excellent practice for elementary, middle and high school students in special education or life skills classrooms.
  • Because they use real-life situations, they are great for secondary and transition classrooms to practice their money skills in the classroom as well.

Features of the Counting Coins Task Cards

Some of the features you will love in these money task cards for counting coins are:

  • The cards are differentiated with sets of cards with 1-coin to 4-coin combinations
  • The coins on the task cards are included face up and face down. This mimics the way we use money in the real-life situation and increases students’ fluency at identifying the coins as they work.
  • Similarly the coins are not lined up in rows but scattered as if they are just taken out of a pocket.
  • Don’t like laminating? Grab a set of plastic baseball card holders and these cards will fit right into them.
  • Students can complete the task cards by counting the coins, writing money amounts on an included answer sheet, by circling the right answer from 3 choices, or by using a bingo marker, dry erase marker or even a paper clip or clothespin to indicate their choice of the 3 choices at the bottom of the card.
  • Students match the cards with coin amounts to price tags on grocery store items on other cards.
  • An answer key is included to make it easier for you to check you students’ work.
