Holiday Resources That Will Keep Your Students Engaged!

These holiday and Christmas resources are great for keeping engagement in special education classrooms at the hardest time of the year! Make sure to grab the free activities too!

Sharing is caring!

Yes, I realize I just reviewed my Thanksgiving resources and now I’m sharing winter holiday resources. But, you know, that’s how it goes in our world these days!  Turn around and it’s New Years!! So grab a beverage and I want to share a ton of freebies and products from my store to help get you through that Thanksgiving-Winter Break period of the year!

Let me warn you….I love the winter holidays.  I love winter–probably because I’ve only occasionally had to live in it, I know!  You should see my Christmas clip art collection….or maybe not…you might feel the need for an intervention. So, today I’m just covering resources that will help to keep your students engaged specifically in more group or small group instruction.  That includes interactive books and morning meeting materials.

WINTER HOLIDAY BOOKS

The Winter Holiday Interactive Books cover Christmas, Hanukkah, and Kwanzaa practices  It includes a book each common celebrations of each holiday. There are 5 books in all and there are visuals included to put on choice boards with my morning meeting starter kits.  All 5 books are illustrated with clip art (rather than photos).

  • Winter Holiday Traditions focuses on a few key concepts from the different holiday traditions of Christmas, Hanukkah, and Kwanzaa.
  • Celebrating Hanukkah reviews the activities of families during Hanukkah.
  • Celebrating Christmas concentrates on the activities of many families at Christmas. I’ve chosen to keep it primarily secular, so it does not focus on the religious aspect of Christmas. Instead it focuses on traditions.
  • Celebrating Kwanzaa about the activities of families during Kwanzaa.
  • Celebrating the Winter Holidays targets verbs and depicts the commonalities of the three holidays.

The 12 Days of Christmas a classic for morning meeting in the holidays. Visuals can help students to be engaged and participate.

EMMET ELF INTERACTIVE BOOK (FREE)

Grab this free book from my store to have students work on responding to multiple cues in reading and paying attention to detail.  It contains a variety of details to attend to from big / small, color, name of the item, and function of the item among others.

It is great for morning meeting and group story times as an interactive book that reinforces these concepts.  You can also use it in discrete trials or PRT instruction 1-1 or in small groups to explicitly teach responding to multiple cues.

Teachers may like it for errorless teaching, to prevent errors, or error correction as is appropriate for the students by leaving out pictures that are not the correct answer off the page or limiting the number of choices you can manipulate.

DECORATING INTERACTIVE BOOK (FREE)

And finally, you can find this free interactive book to the resource library.  Not a member? Join us here! If you are a member, make sure your have your user name and password.  Then log in here and grab the freebie!

The book is set up just like the ones at the beginning of this post–I just made an extra one!  Enjoy!
